Become a Mentor

Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee.

The Just Us Girls Mentoring Program helps to empower youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

Just Us Girls is in need of passionate and committed mentors and volunteers to help achieve our goals. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a volunteer, click on the link below.

“Volunteering with Just Us Girls has been an amazing opportunity for me in regards to giving me a voice and chance to make a difference in the lives of youth. The sisterhood has allowed me to also grow and look at my own life, to look for ways to improve myself, my confidence, and my character. I have loved the space and safety amongst the group as we’ve dove into topics, and conversations I’ve never openly discussed. I am grateful to have met the young ladies I’ve met and I am even more excited to see the program continue to grow”

FAQ

What are the qualifications for applying to your program?

Girls must be in middle or high school and have a willingness to take part in a mentoring program.

What is the cost of your program?

At the present time, we only ask parents and mentors to donate $25 per month.

How often do you meet?

We meet every other Saturday. Our regular meeting time is 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. The time may differ if we are participating in outside activities.

When do you take applications?

We take applications throughout the year, but we interview prospective mentees quarterly (January, April, July, and October). We will contact you at the end of the quarter in which you apply to come in for an interview. If there is no response we will remove your application from our active database.

To what extent are parents allowed to be involved?

We welcome parental involvement. Parents are required to attend at least 3 of our 4 parent meetings and take part in other standard JUGs activities.

How many girls are in the program?

We have a maximum of 25 girls in our program at any one time. Ideally, we would like for the girls to stay in the program through high school graduation.
